The Honorable Carla Moore
Judge Carla Moore graduated with honors from The University of Akron with a major field of study of German language. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University School of Law. Judge Moore was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1977.
She currently serves as a Judge of the Ninth District Court of Appeals in Akron, Ohio, having been elected to the court in 2004 and reelected in 2010. The Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over Lorain, Medina, Summit and Wayne Counties. Prior to her service on the Court of Appeals, Judge Moore served for 15 years as a Judge on the Akron Municipal Court. As an attorney, she practiced law in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, where she was Chief of the Appellate Division, and the Akron law firm of Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, L.P.A. She was also an adjunct professor of appellate litigation at the Cleveland Marshall Law School.
Judge Moore is a Fellow of ASTAR, Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource Program, and served as Chair of Ohio ASTAR’s Colloquium on Reproductive Medicine. Committed to judicial education, she has taught for over ten years on the faculty of the Ohio Judicial College. In 2010, Judge Moore was selected to serve as President of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Judicial College. Judge Moore was recently honored by the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law with the Outstanding Jurist Award. She has provided leadership to the law school for almost a decade serving on its National Council. She has also received the coveted University of Akron Distinguished Alumni Award.
Judge Moore is deeply involved in numerous philanthropic boards, currently serving on the following: the Akron Community Foundation, Leadership Akron and Lawrence School. Recent board service includes Akron Children’s Hospital, Christian Legal Society, Akron Bar Association, Old Trail School, and others.
Judge Moore and her husband Dr. Dan Wilson have two adult children.
