The Honorable Beth Whitmore


Judge Beth Whitmore graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated first in her class and received her law degree from The University of Akron School of Law.

After her admission to the Ohio Bar, Judge Whitmore was in private practice for fourteen years with the national firm of Arter & Hadden until her appointment and subsequent election to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas. She was elected to the Ninth District Court of Appeals during November 1998 and reelected in 2004 and 2010.

Prior to law school, Judge Whitmore served in the United States Air Force as Top Secret Control Officer and Commander of Enlisted Women at Goodfellow Airforce Base and its Tri-Service Training School for the National Security Agency.  She was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.

Judge Whitmore has also served as an adjunct professor on appellate advocacy at The University of Akron School of Law. She is a member of the Lorain County Bar Association, Medina County Bar Association, Wayne County Bar Association, and Ohio State Bar Association.  In September 2009, she was named an ASTAR (Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource) Fellow.  Judge Whitmore is active in various civic and community organizations, and has a daughter, son, and three grandchildren.
